Matthew Joseph England was killed in action in An Najah province, Iraq when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 3rd squadron, 3rd Armored Calvary regiment Ft Hood Texas. He was 22 years of age.
Matthew attended school at Lutie R-6 accelerated school in Theodosia, MO where he was in the Honors Society and graduated as salutatorian. He was also the president of the Tech Club, played basketball, and participated in other student activities. In addition to serving in the US Army Matthew was working hard at earning his college degree.
Please join us when we honor his memory by running or walking at the Matthew England Memorial 5K on Dec. 8.
Pam Hengen, Matthew’s mom, said Matthew loved to run and this is a perfect way for us to remember his sacrifice. If you cannot join us in Gainesville, you can still participate by running or walking a 5K (3.1 miles) wherever you happen to be on that day.
All proceeds from this event go to the Matthew England Memorial Scholarship Fund.
