Here in the Ozarks, we know the importance of showing up for our neighbors. Whether we're cheering from the sidelines at a schoolARTICLE PIC sporting event, supporting a local fundraiser or lacing up our running shoes for a good cause, Southwest Missouri has a way of coming together when it matters.

On Saturday, October 31, the community will have another opportunity to do just that at the Hero 5K Run in Nixa.

Hosted by MG Cares, the Hero Run honors the men and women who have served our country while supporting the families who stand behind them. It's a chance for Nixa and surrounding communities to turn a morning of running and walking into something that makes a lasting difference.

And with Halloween falling on race day, it's a great way to kick off the holiday with a little exercise, community spirit and a whole lot of heart.

Supporting the Families Who Serve Our Country

When we think about military service, we often think about the men and women in uniform. But behind every service member is a family that makes sacrifices, too.

The Hero Run recognizes those families by raising scholarship funds for graduating Nixa High School seniors who have a parent who is a veteran.

For local students preparing for life after high school, scholarship support can help make the next chapter a little more attainable. Whether they're planning to attend college or pursue another educational path, investing in these students is an investment in the future of our community.

That's what makes this event so meaningful. Participants aren't simply signing up for a race. They're helping recognize military families and support young people as they take their next steps.

A Great Reason to Get Moving in Nixa

You don't have to be a competitive runner to be part of the Hero Run. With both a 5K and a 1-mile option, there's an opportunity for runners, walkers and families to get involved at their own pace.

Gather your running buddies, invite your neighbors or make it a morning outing with the family. It's a chance to enjoy some time outdoors, connect with others in the community and support a cause that reaches beyond the finish line.

And let's be honest — Halloween weekend can get busy! Starting the day with a run or walk for a good cause is a pretty great way to balance out the candy and festivities ahead.

Because Community Is About Showing Up

One of the best things about living in Southwest Missouri is seeing what happens when people come together for something bigger than themselves. Local races provide a way to do exactly that — bringing people together while supporting the organizations, families and causes that make our communities stronger.

The Hero Run gives us an opportunity to thank those who have served, recognize the sacrifices made by military families and help local students pursue their dreams.

So, Nixa and Ozarks runners, consider adding this one to your fall race calendar. Bring a friend, invite your family and come be part of a morning with a meaningful mission.

This Halloween, let's make every mile count — for our heroes, their families and the next generation of our community.
